WOMAN
​

​The essence of a woman cannot be easily captured
As the roles of a woman are many and varied
She’s the epitome of beauty
Who performs efficiently every duty
She can be docile, fragile, and delicate
At times she can also be tough challenging and strong
Day and night she toils for her family
Those innocent days of childhood
The mature adulthood
From one phase to the other
Daughter, wife, mother
Her entire life is a transition
Each phase is a variation
So many tough roles she plays
All different in their own ways
To become a part of a new household
She leaves her loving caring parents fold.
 

Mumbai Stampede
​

​It was a bright sunny day
Commuters were passing by
Going about their daily routine
Each in a hurry to reach their destination
Could hear announcements of trains arrival and departure;
There was a spontaneous change in the climate
Dark clouds hung in the sky
Within seconds a heavy deluge poured
Many people were caught unaware
Some stopped by the entrance to take shelter
Many crowded over me
Suddenly saw people running helter- skelter
A flower vendor shouted’ fuul gir gaya’ *
She meant to say her flowers fell and people assumed the bridge had collapsed
My roof was leaking due to rains
My body got slippery with the wetness
A lady slipped on the steps
The speed with which commuters were running
They started falling over one another
A heap of bodies formed
Loud shouting and other warnings
Heart wrenching sobs and cries
Please save us
Oh God pull me out
I don’t want to die
Call for help
Suppressed in the suffocation
I tried hard to open my arms
To make space for the poor sufferers
To pull them out of their misery
I tried to call the authorities for help
But I a mere bridge
Have no voice which could be heard
And no arms which could support
 

• ‘ ful gir gaya’ -   Indian Hindi language which mean “flowers have fallen down”

 
 
 

Nurture
​

​Fell down from a tree
Lying on the road
Trampled, kicked, tossed by many
Ignored, lonely and battered
Blown away by the breeze at times
Drenched and caught in heavy rains some times
Piled with garbage, dust particles
Gone through many a hardships
But still constitution intact
Day by day just existing
Till tiny gentle hands picked me up
Softly caressed, lightly petted
All my pain, sorrows forgotten
Driven away by such a sweet gesture
Now I’m lying peacefully
Among scented pages of a book
Mere a skeleton but more attractive
Well cared and looked after in my old days.
