E. IZABELLE CASSANDRA ALEXANDER - POEMS

E. Izabelle Cassandra Alexander grew up in a little village in Hungary and have been writing poetry since age ten. After relocating to the United States, it took her thirteen years to express herself in English through poetry, since one must open his or her heart in order to create something memorable worth reading.
         Some of her work has been published and forthcoming in Spark, Unlimited Literature, and on the IL State Poetry Society’s website and in their next anthology, Distilled Lives. 
         Her nonfiction piece titled Disciplined Discipline received honorable mention in a contest by WOW Woman, and several of her poems, fiction, and nonfiction stories had been selected by Oakton Community College to represent them in the annual Skyway Competitions over the last five years.
         Izabelle is a mother of three lovely children and four pets. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems and an MBA in Business.

​Fractured

​My whole world is crumbling
Breaking at the edges and seams
Being whole is just an elusive dream
Standing firm
Feeling worthy
A life of meaning
Crashing down to the ground
into nothingness
 
Dressed in purple
In the color of prestige and royalty
But feeling lost and
worth nothing at all,
Walking on paths of vibrant flowers
But nothing more than a soul
Longing to be home in eternal peace since
Upon this earth, I’m just a prisoner of grief

 

​Spring
(Haiku)

​Mushrooms' laughter rise
As dandelions dream yellow
While spring insects smile.

​Deception

​The bell rings.
Everyone leaves.
Immaculate white floors stained by drips of paint along the walls,
bright yellow.
Through the open window, the piercing sound of a siren
competes with three thunderous gongs from the church across as
she walks down the hall.
The girl holds the blade in her left hand, leaning against the stall.
Examines it carefully.
Is it still sharp enough?
She executes precision cuts on her right calf,
just below the knee, just enough to sprout blood.
“I’m wicked,” she chants. 
With each cut she wishes to release:
Pain,
Loneliness,
Grief.
Yet she doesn’t know
how deep
she cuts into her soul,
drip by drip,
until there’s no turning back.
Self-mutilation had poisoned her.

​You Held My Hand

​A gentle whisper breathed within “I’m here holding your hand”
Until then despair cried in my heart “set me free!”
Time hardly moved in this forsaken land
Filled with shame, anywhere, but here I wanted to be
 
Tears rolled down my face as I played the “what if” game
Frightened, weak, without nourishment and ill
For my misfortune I was searching within, looking to blame
What could I have done better to forfeit this enormous hill?
 
Climbing without railing, fearful of falling I felt
With every fiber of my being just wanted to get out
Refusing the cards that have been already dealt
“This pain is unbearable, just take me home!” I wanted to shout
 
In misery I was held captive, but now I remembered the words that He said
In a waterfall of trials cascading through His loving hand
Within the testing of my faith when all that I had turned into sand
He was there with me as promised and
He never let go of holding my hand…
