DREAM(s)

Weaved Collaboration Poem By: Authors/Sisters Nancy Ndeke (Kenya Nairobi) and Renee Drummond-Brown (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

DREAM(s)
Dare to
Come true
Not if…but
When pursued
Not
With vigor
Not
Relentlessly
But
Forcefully
Like a thief in the night;
even Upon a morn,
but 12:00 noon is the best time for dreams to shed our poetic vision(s) ever so bright.

Dedicated to: ‘WE’ have a poetic dream; like a King.

Gone fishing? ‘WATCH’ what you catch?????

I tell my woes
‘ONLY’
to the wind(s)
I trust
absolutely
‘NO~ONE’
‘cept’
‘ONLY’
in Him
tried by six
tested
by ‘sum’
proven
by Him
‘ov’r’ an’ ‘ov’r’
what
part of this
…..
don’t
you get?
Again.

Hurts
my middle
name
fighting back
‘IZ’
‘MY’
game
asking
no questions
‘kickin’
behinds
an’
‘takin’
no names;
I am
in it
to
win it;
YEAH,
what
don’t
you get
‘WINNINGS’
definitely
my authentic game!
Yes!!
And
I
don’t
play
fair;
you don’t say?
Yeah,
winning
‘IZ’
my claim
to
‘my’
legitimate
‘kindda’
fame!

I’ve fried
fish
waaaaaaay bigger
than you
cat, trout, crawfish
WHITING
and
‘ev’N’
‘dat’
‘BLACK’ ‘BASS’
too!

I’m the real
deal
‘AIN’T’ no joke
ask “them”?
 I’ll take you there (staple ‘sangers’)
down that
lonely lonesome
blackballed road
‘fo’ broke!

I know
‘WHEN’ to
hold ‘em’
fold ‘em’
‘cept’,
I do not
run;
‘ev’n’
own
a pink
revolver
naw
‘jus’ ‘kiddin’
I ain’t got
no gun$

Invade
my space
I do not play
on bended
 knees
‘fo’ you
yeah you
I’ve already
prayed
yeah,
I’ve won
you lost
again
‘JUS’
GET
‘OUTTA’
MY WAY!
‘Jus’
shut up
He gets
both
you an’ my
last say.

A RocDeeRay Poem

WHO LET THE ‘DAWGZ’ OUT?

WANTED ‘DEAD’.
NOT
ALIVE!!!

EXTRA EXTRA
READ ALL ABOUT IT
RUNAWAY SLAVE
ON THE LOOSE
THERE’S
NO DOUBT
ABOUT IT.
NO WORRIES
THOUGH.
THE GOOD OL’ ‘BOYZ’
ARE SURE
‘GONNA’
CATCH IT
WITH
HAY & ALLEN’S LIVE STOCK
OF NEGRO ‘DAWGZ’;
WHOSE UNQUESTIONABLY
‘GONNA’
CATCH ‘EM’ ALL!

And them good ol’ ‘boyz’’
said
“Get them ‘dawgs’
‘ov’r’ here.
I can surely smell
that Negro’s
fear”.

And the slave said
“Lord
if
they catch me
on
this day;
I ‘jus’
‘wanna’
be dead.
Cause
I can’t
go back;
won’t
go back.
NO!
Not ‘EVER’ again
enslaved.
No,
not there”!

And them good ol’ ‘boyz’
said
“Well,
would you look here,
at his clothes,
“on
the ground
face down”,
and
our ‘dawgz’
KNOW
that
‘Negro’ scent
anywhere”!!!

And the slave
said
“Lawd, Lawd, Lawd
I ‘needs’ me
‘sum’
waters;
to bathe
my ‘heads’.
I ‘needs’
to wade
like
no other
from
the
Leviticus curse
that
YOU LAWD
sent me,
my sons,
brothers
and
haughty daughters”.

And them good ol’ ‘boyz’ said
“The ‘dawgz’ scent
‘iz’
‘gettin’ cold.
That ‘Negro’
‘dun’ found
him
‘sum’ water
from ‘sumwhere’;
so
‘um’ told.
No worries though,
at $3.‘d00llas’
a head
‘we’ze’
‘gonna’ find ‘em’,
catch ‘em’
skin ‘em’
and
kill ‘em’
DEAD.
If it takes
all night
he ‘gotta’
surface somehow
‘sumwhere’!

And the slave sang
“Wade in the water,
‘waaade’
in the water;
I’m
the ‘chile’
that
‘MoZez’ ‘brang’
out of
Egypt land.
‘Iz’
got to
wade
‘jus’
a lil’
‘whiles’
longer”.

And them good ol’ ‘boyz’ sang
“Eeny meeny miny moe
catch a
‘Negro’
by its toe
if they
‘hollas’
‘don’t’
let ‘em’
go
Eeny meeny
miny moe.
‘Cuz’
ain’t no sunshine
‘why’s’ ‘youz’ gone;
the
SNOW PATROLS
got its
hounds
on ground.
‘We’ze’ ‘fennin’
to castrate
an’
send you
heavenly
bound.
Ain’t no sunshine
while ‘you’z’
gone”.

And the slave pressed on.
But,
did I mention
he’s
only
10 yrs. ol’?
A boy.
Far less than
a man
existing life
minus
experiencing
the ‘feelins’
of added joy
at hand.

And them good ol’ ‘boyz’ said
“Well
‘lookie’ ‘lookie’
what ‘we’ze’
got here;
a
scared Negro
all
draped in anguish
and
‘sum’ fear.
‘We’ze’ ‘gonna’
 kill ‘em’,
right now;
right here.
Tried.
Tested.
An’
proven
by our ‘MOB’
who surely
ain’t scared”.

And the slave ‘BOY’ said
“Lawd,
‘imma’ cast
‘ALL’
fears
‘onna’
God heard,
not seen
but
‘sumhow’
I know that I know;
You
do care.
Father,
forgive them
for they
know not
what
they do.
‘Iz’ ready
to be
a man now
an’ hang
from
a tree,
‘ev’n’
‘fo’ You.

The Father knows
all
oxygen
was
cut off
as he
‘swang’.
10 yrs. ol’
but
considered
a man.
Eyes bulging
from
his head
sweat pouring
from
his glands.
Breath
slipping fast.
Numbness
in both hands;
mob ‘yellin’
“swing low
sweet chariot
no-ones
‘fennin’
to carry you home”.

Boy’s
minds’
the last to leave
as he
FORCED
to
~SWING~
and become
a man
from
a
 poplar tree.

BUT~~~~
THAT’S
NOT HOW
THE STORY ENDS.
‘JUST’
AS ‘SURE’
AS I
‘ROSE’ AGAIN.
I AIN’T
FORGOT
WHAT
THEY DID.
Signed~~~~
THE FATHER,
WITH
THAT BOYS TEARS.

IN LIGHT OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2017; LEST WE FORGET.

Him.

The day
we met;
I saw us
old.
Somehow,
I knew
he
was the one.
I knew
I’d have
both
his daughter’s.
AND
his only
son.
I knew
when meeting
you;
we’d both
grow young.

‘Neva’ Let ‘Em’ See ‘YOU’ Sweat

I ‘neva’ slept
all
night long.
Went
to bed
at
the break of dawn.
Hives drew
all ‘ov’r’
my face,
legs
an’ arms.
But…
I ‘neva’
‘EVA’
let ‘em’
see me
sweat
before
nights long.

No!
‘Nadda’ one!!
No!
Not at all!!!
I walk ‘dem’ floors;
for you my ‘chile’,
I prayed
‘ALL’
night long.
Went to the Father
to
cast ‘OUR’ cares.
‘Neva’ let ‘em’ see you sweat
my dear.
No
‘Nadda’ tear.

Although,
I shed me
‘sum’
healthy fears
before
morn.
I’ll never forget
5/31/17,
as long
as I live hun!
WVU,
1:30 pm.
You came out
the gate ‘swangin’
strong.
An’ ‘sustah’ gal,
you~~we,
earned ‘THAT’ crown.
Hail to the Queen(s)
or
Hell to the Queen(s)
which ‘eva’ mood I’m in
(LOL)!
CONGRATULATIONS
Dr.
Renee’ Barbara-Ann Brown.
An ‘wit’ momma
by your side~~~

Fools Rush In!

Elvis
once sang
“wise men say,
‘ONLY’
fools rush in.”
He ain’t
‘nevalied’
‘bout’
‘US’
simple women.

We meet ‘em’ on today;
tomorrow
they’re
moved in.

We care
‘NOTHIN’
bout
our children’s
‘feelins’.

He takes ‘ov’r’
the house
an’
gets served
like a king.
While
our babies
‘gotta’
tip-toe
round
shhhhhhhhhhhhh;
quiet,
as a
church-mouse.
~~~~~~
IN
THEIR OWN HOUSE!!!
It’s ‘jus’
emotions
that take
 ‘US’
‘ov’r’
cause he
gets
the best
of our
‘luv’;
more or less.
But Kenny sang;
‘YOU’
‘gotta’
‘KNOW’
when
to
hold him.
When
to fold him.
And ‘yezzz’,
‘EVEN’
when
to run!
Frankie Lymon,
why do fools
rush in?
When you gave
‘US’
the
A B C’s
of
‘luv’
Strawberry Letter 23
Your ‘luv’
‘iz’ raw.
It took her
by storm.
Caught her
off guard;
when you rained,
you poured.
But…
In the game
of ‘luv’;
often ‘tymes’
They had to
go back
to start.
Could not
pass go.
For ‘tymes’
such as these;
it
stunted
their growth…
But…
In spite
of it
all.
They held onto;
two separate worlds;
Strawberry Letter 23,
and
the ‘ONE’
true
Living God.
 Dedicated to: LOVE conquers ‘ALL’ ‘thangs’!!!
A B.A.D. Poem
I (still) Do
We met
on the street
after
dropping them keys;
I picked up
for you.
Our eyes fell
asleep,
deadlocked,
refusing to drop.
‘Luv’
at ‘MY’
first sight.
‘Daze’ went by,
years,
an’ O’
‘Dem’ semi-
precious nights.
We laughed,
cried,
fussed
an’ literally
fought
a good fight.
I did my best
to select
a white dress.
While you didn’t know it
you passed
Mr. Right’s
A+ test;
even saw
the ring
2 Karats
meant
the world
to me.
Yeah ‘everythang’!
Including
clarity.
But,
something (hmm???)
Just
Wasn’t
Quite
Right.
I noticed
you never
stayed
full nights.
An’
I never met
family
foe
nor
friends.
Something
just
‘wazant’
right
???
Then
reality
shattered
all dreams
as she
walked down the aisle;
to
‘MY MAN’
‘wit’
a smile,
wearing
my dress
and ring.
And
I still
wanted
to say
I Do
ever
so badly
to
the unknown man
I met
on ‘dem’ streets.
That
would be you.
I still do.
USER’S
Funny how
we
‘AIN’T’
family
foe
nor
friend;
‘UNTIL’,
your ‘legal’ troubles
begin.
‘THEN’
Hun,
we’re one
for all.
‘AND’
all
for one
my ‘KIN’!
Dedicated to: What have you done for me lately?
THE DOOR OF NO RETURN
I HATE
DOORS.
I HATE
WINDOWS,
AN’
I LOATHE
TREES.
THE DOOR OF NO RETURN
LOCKED
‘MY’ ANCESTORS
AND ‘ME’
OUT
OF ‘EVER’
BEING
FREE.
THE WINDOWS
I
MUST CLIMB THROUGH;
FOR
MRS. MISSY,
‘MY’
MOMMAS HANDS
SLAVED
TO KEEP CLEAN.
AS FOR
‘DEM’
‘SOUTHERN’ TREES.
NAW,
‘I’Z’ LYING.
‘ALL’
TREES
BEARING LEAVES;
I’VE HAD TO
‘WATCH’
FROM CLEAN WINDOWS,
BEHIND LOCKED DOORS,
‘MY’
COLORED ‘BOYZ’
SWING.
Dedicated to: Mrs. Missy.
One Monkey Don’t ‘STOP’ No Show
You know
he laughed
when you left.
But then,
cried
to himself.
In front of
‘his’ ‘boyz’
he
had to
play it
cool,
but alone
‘KNEW’
he ‘wuz’
THE BIGGEST FOOL;
to lose
a jewel
like you.
Now,
you ‘lookin’
all good;
‘wit’
your new man.
An, he
‘standin’
‘wit’
his ‘boyz’;
‘PROUD’
acting glad,
inside
feeling
mad, miserable and sad.
Knowing;
he lost
the best thing,
He’d
ever had.
Dedicated to: Baby come back!!!
