Extended StayThe hotel room is spotless. The rays of the sun give the room light. The walls are the color of a morning sky, a splash of paradise. The fresh paint lingers in the air. Delois takes a deep breath and slowly exhales. The room gets thoroughly inspected. TJ clenches his bags, and jaunts to the sliding door to get some fresh air. He then places his hand over his eyes, because the sun was piercing his eyes.
“Do you think anyone will find us here?” said TJ “If you keep talking at the top of your voice, they will,” said DeLois, slowly moving toward the patio. TJ wipes his face. “Did you tell anyone? You know that it’s hard for you to keep a secret.” He put one finger on his lips, then shook his head. “How long do we have to wait?” said Delois. “Between two and six weeks.” said TJ. “How many people do you think are looking for us?” asked Delois. She slowly walks back in the room. Standing on her tiptoes, her eyes glaze through the peep hole of the door. “Before I finish talking, I need to grab some water.” TJ said. He dug for a bottle water that was in his bag. “There shouldn’t be anyone looking for us. You told your friends and family you had to go out of town for work, and you told your work you had to take care of your family. All of our T’s are crossed.” “Did you dot the I’s? Delois asked. TJ’s lips started to turn up. His smile is a replica of a Joker card. His body starts to lean forward, and he pulls a piece of paper and a pen from his bag and begins to write. Delois is confused. Birds start to sing, as they kiss the flowers on the patio. “Look, I just dotted the I’s.” said TJ. He drew two eyeballs and put a dot in the middle of them. The sound of a hyena comes from TJ’s mouth. “I wish those damn birds would shut up! And what the hell are you writing down, and giggling for?” said Delois. “If you plan the correct way, you will never have to worry about anything else in this life we are living.” TJ said. “Well, why didn’t you plan for us to stay in a better hotel? There is nothing Grand about this room. We are in a cheap extended stay.” said Delois. “Staying under the radar, is the best thing we can do in this type of situation.” TJ slips Delois the paper. “Please read and sign this.” he said. Delois screams. “A contract, why do I need to sign this?” “When we go home, I want to live a normal life. I don’t want everyone around me acting like I am their best friend. Or better yet, I am the best-looking guy they ever met. I want to find someone who loves me for who I am, not what I have.” TJ said. “I hate that you picked the numbers.” said Delois “I HATE THAT IT WAS YOUR MONEY TO BUY THE TICKET.” said TJ. Delois scratches her head. “We did say we would split it 50/50. Are you ready for your new life?” “Yes, after we leave this Extended Stay.” said TJ. He grabbed Delois and placed his arms around her. “We made it mom. Thank you for everything. We never have to work another day in our life.”
