Genn Barrett is a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College's Liberal Arts program currently living in Kingston, NY. She is a Disney-fanatic, an avid reader and costume maker . She spends her week nights watching Youtubers play horror games, and cosplays at comic cons on the weekends with her boyfriend. Her work has previously appeared in Spill Ur Guts and Leaves of Ink. 

Grieving
​

It’s difficult to deal with
So hard to comprehend
Even if the result is simple
An unacceptable answer
It’s unfathomable
It’s indescribable
Unwanted

It changes moods in an instant
Pathways become targets
Anything in the way is a victim
There are few ways to escape
It’s frustrating
It’s irritable
Annoying

But perhaps this was needed
Maybe it was meant to be
There was no way to avoid it
It was bound to happen sooner or later
It’s inevitable
It’s unexplainable
Unavoidable

The sorrows fall fast
The whole world the enemy
Its weight bearing down
Will there be happiness to be had?
It’s suffocating
It’s nothing    
Loneliness

There’s an understanding now
A reasoning behind the madness
Like a mutual agreement
An unspoken contract that cannot be altered
It’s peaceful
It’s tranquil
Relief

We deny the situation
Angered something like this has happened
Trying to bargain the decision
Depression becoming a close companion
Before we finally accept the ultimate outcome

Monuments of Time
​

There’s beauty in death, despite it’s morbidity
The tranquility and peace – it’s comforting
There’s still life all around
The trees, the grass, the animals – 
Mother Nature herself

The sorrow beneath is incased in the warmth of remembrance
The memory of who they were stands tall
Some markings have faded over time; 
Withered away by the elements and life
Yet others are fresh and new; 
Crisp, sharp and clean

It’s quite the inspiration
History waiting to be explored
The watchers stand guard over those laid to rest;
A past wanting to be known
Death awaiting its resurrection

Rage
​

It brews so sudden--
a storm within--
Bubbling at the surface.
Let the fury begin.
 
All within range are prone
To the danger approaching.
Emotions are now false--
The chaos ever flowing.
 
There’s hardly any escape--
Once it grows, it hardly stops--
Protection is eminent.
Yet the victims all drop.
 
If you fight back
There’s little chance of survival.
Or risk those you care about--
And so, the chaos starts to spiral.
 
Waring out of control--
Now there’s nowhere to run--
Anger consumes the host completely.
Its job is now done.
