​Subway Tokens

I used to look for you in the wind.
The filtering of the leaves 
Beneath my feet once composed a 
Symphony of circular sympathy
That brought the hair on my neck 
To a standing ovation. 
What beautiful sounds you sent me.

What beautiful sounds.
Maybe the leaves were swept away.
Maybe the strings snapped. Maybe
The fingers of those who plucked
Were tired of receiving an empty hat
After endless applause.

I used to look for you in the wind.
I think you stopped looking, too.

The Wind
​

It is interesting to note the ease
With which the Wind whips westward
And caresses the shoulder of those
Bold enough to assume what surrounds them
Is indefinite. It takes but a breeze 
To tug at the field of familiarity that extends
From sweatpants and sushi bowls to all
Black in suit and tied up in ways to leave
Burns on the wrists. And the Wind will blow,
Taking with Her the sound of the voice that
Once dripped like honey into morning tea.
And the Wind will blow.
But the Wind will heal.
