ESHA MISHRA - POEMS

Esha Mishra is a senior at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. She has been writing poetry since she was eleven and is debuting her first poetry book, Lotus Flames, soon. She writes for her school's Renaissance Journal and has been awarded several Gold Keys in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. She is also an American Voices Nominee.

No more scheming
No more stealing
No more crying
We tell ourselves every night
But as the day dawns
We sink and fall
Back into the
Same old
Habits

the lies we tell ourselves

​We’re all fighting
An invisible war
For ourselves
For someone we love
 
Every hour
Every minute
Every second
Until the moment
When our last breath
Vanquishes
In the thin air
Around us
And the battlefield finally
Falls still

life is a war

​I wish I was a mayfly
So I could live one day
Brilliantly
24 hours
of sheer bliss
with the world at my feet
and the sky
at the corners of my eyes

​I see
Fading skies
Of rose and apricot
Adorned
With soft streaks of murky grey
A boom, in the distance
And a flash of sparks
Blink for a few seconds
A slight breeze blows through
And the air starts to twinkle

In and out
Of translucent colors
And dreamy lights
Decorated with
The longings of
Fantasy
