Revelations

Wobbling towards my best friend, she stretched out her hand as the ground began to crack. My ears were filled with the fear and desperation in her voice. “Carmen! Hurry up!” Finally, getting my footing, I sprinted the rest of the way to the street.
“Tarrish!” My voice shrieked when the ground underneath my feet gave way and I felt myself falling. Everything slowed down and my eyes widened. No, I’m going to die!
A hand, firmly, gripped my wrist, nails digging into my flesh. My vision was invaded by red as I was pulled upward. “Carmen, thank God!” Zane’s voice was filled with relief. I blinked and he was in front of me. My breath coming out ragged and I threw my arms around his neck. Zane was my childhood crush and, right now, my hero.
“We need to go!” Tarrish appeared beside us. The ground trembled, again, and we made a run for it. Chaos was all around from people panicking. The sun was a light red and black clouds seemed to gather overhead. Keeping pace with Zane, I grabbed his hand from anxiety. What’s going on, the words were formed on my tongue, but I was too afraid to ask. Zane’s arm shot out as the sidewalk fell into the ground and we had to back pedal to keep from falling with it.
“Carmen…” Her voice seemed like a panic whisper, but I couldn’t see her. Freezing in disbelief, my eyes took in her clothes that was crumbled on the ground.
“T-Tarrish!?” A scream escaped my lips. Zane saw it too, people started vanishing. It was a strange thing, not everyone disappeared. Just certain people… My eyes widened and I grabbed his arm. “It’s happening…”
            “What’s happening?”
“The end, the rapture!” Adrenaline flowed through my veins as terror took over. “We need to find a safe place!”
“Where? Nowhere is safe!” Zane yelled, with stricken terror. We both knew about the horrific event that is taking place. I remember my foster parent forcing me to go to church; the times I laughed at the idea of what will happen at the end. The Revelations… Zane was among my friends that felt the same way. My eyes wandered around at the destruction of the earth, when a blinding light temporarily blinded me. I shielded my eyes and heard the chilling music of the horns. What started off as a beautiful 4th of July morning, quickly became the end of the world.
The darkened clouds disappeared and, soon, a godly army formed in the sky. I couldn’t speak. It was beautiful and scary all at once. My body began to shake as I realized what was about to unfold... It’s here and I’m stuck in the middle. It’s really happening…
“Carmen, look…” Zane’s voice brought me out of my thoughts. A few yards away, the ground opened with a strange reddish black, glow. Demons, my memory collided into my brain and certain words flashed a warning.
“Oh, no…” I whispered and grabbed his hand. “We need to run!” Tugging him along I, hurriedly, tried to make a safe distance but it didn’t go as planned… Zane was ripped from my side and, as I turned around, I witnessed his death. His head was snapped and torn off, blood spilling everywhere. My stomach dropped and a silent scream slipped my lips. This doesn’t feel real…
He’s gone! My mind went hysterical and my breath started coming out fast; the demon devoured the rest of his body, hungrily. A hideous grin formed on its face and I was paralyzed… Not wanting to see anymore, I eagerly clawed at my eyes and waited for my death.
