ALFRED NICHOLSON - POEMS

My name is Alfred Nicholson.
I am a retired Typesetter, Proofreader and Writer from New York City, but now live in Beaverton Oregon .I have worked as a Printer with Hand Type, Linotype and Computer Typesetting.
I have written more than 50 poems and many short stories, Fiction and Non Fiction
Recently my Poem "One Room Does It All" was chosen as Poem of the Month and
displayed on the Internet.
Several years ago I was invited to read a poem of mine on the stage at Disneyland, Fla.
One of my poems appears on Facebook.
My latest writing of poems and stories has appeared in successive issues of the monthly Edgewood Point Bulletin

​WOE, CAN WE STOP THE #s?

More and more the cases continue to spike.
So many places we tell him "take a hike."

The virus is everywhere, so much to fear.
He looks for the crowds, then he will cheer.

To places in our country, north or south.
Look out for him, we continue to shout.

He will appear, where we show no fear.
Those without a mask, he will see and hear.

Many have returned to work, only to find.
The virus is there and is close behind.

To the hospital so many will have to go. 
All the numbers, they continue to grow.

Back to school soon the children will go.
How safe they may be, we do not know.

Many will stay home and who will they hear
on a screen, a teacher, will soon appear.

LOOKING AHEAD TO A VACCINE
​

Before or after the new year is here.
A vaccine will then hopefully appear.

So many companies trying to find.
All with one thought on their mind.

Dollars and dollars they will get.
Money well spent we will never regret.

Chase the virus so he will never return.
So many thanks the scientists will urn.

Those who will be the first to receive
the medical and national security.

Not to far down on the list we will see.
The elderly will be there, said the CDC.

So many people we shall protect.
the virus will never be able to infect.

Then we will return to the lives we knew.
and all the wonderful things we use to do.

 A NEW LIFE FOR ALL
​

The age, the young so few . . . the old so many
trapped in a time with so little fun for any.
What are our lives, our future to be
if the shadow, the virus we cannot see.

It shall forever fade and leave us to measure
our world we once knew and we now treasure.

We will return to places we knew
in a society whose rules we can view.

To help us understand caution must be shown
to prevent us from returning to the unknown.
 
A new beginning for each day our desires
will return and our thoughts will inspire.

The age, the young so many . . .  the few so old 
shall all recall our past story where ever it's told.

BACK TO SCHOOL, Maybe?

Back to school, will the children go
Remember the virus is their foe.

The rules are their for them to use
it is the virus we hope, he will snooze.

If we find their may be some that are ill
It is those classes that we should not fill.

Some will remain home and they will see
their classes go on, sadly, without me.

I will have to learn from the screen
and ask myself what does she mean.

Time will tell how the children will learn
for some the parents will no longer earn.

At home they will stay and will not fear
surely the virus will not come there.

It is the teacher who is at risk we know 
for to the classroom they must go.

​MASK UP AND  MAKE THE VIRUS GO

The virus to us is the invisible man.
We must chase him whenever we can.

His shadow can spread so very fast.
We hope his presence will never last.

The mask you wear will make him go.
Tell it to others and make them know.

The rules are there for us to see.
So that we are as safe as can be.

The number of cases continue to rise.
Unlike us, they were not safe or wise.

We have been told and we must see.
Distancing is important to you and me..

Here in our facility the rules are clear.
Our safety comes first, we will hear.

Guests and family will often visit here.
Masks, cotes and gloves, they must wear.
